Ration Book

UK Home Emergency Prep

Power cuts, floods, storms, supply disruption — the official guidance already exists. Ration Book turns it into a plan for your household: what you need, what you've already got, and how long it would last.

One-off price. No subscription. No account needed.

The problem

Most of us would struggle after three days

GOV.UK advises every household to be able to cope without power, water or deliveries for a few days. It's sound advice — and it's scattered across pages most people will never read, let alone return to once the lights go out and the internet goes with them.

Nobody actually knows whether their cupboard would last three days. Ration Book finds out, and keeps the answer on your phone, offline, for when you need it rather than when you remembered to check.

3 days

is the minimum GOV.UK recommends every household plan to cope without power, water or deliveries during an emergency.

How it works

A couple of minutes, then it's done

Four tabs, each doing one job. Everything works offline once it's set up.

1

Set up your household

Postcode and who's in the house — adults, children, babies, pets. Drives everything that follows. Takes a couple of minutes.

2

Check your kit

A preparedness checklist aligned with GOV.UK guidance, scaled to your household. See exactly how sorted you are.

3

Track your ration book

Scan what's in the cupboard. Expiry reminders so nothing goes to waste. See how many days you'd last, today.

4

Keep the guides offline

Local contacts, radio frequencies, and practical how-tos for keeping warm, fed and in touch — cached on your phone, not the internet.

The headline feature

"Your household would last 6 days"

One number, worked out from what you've actually got against what your household needs. It goes up when you shop, down as things go out of date, and it's the first thing you see when you open the app.

  • ✓ Barcode scanning for quick entry
  • ✓ Expiry reminders, so nothing's wasted
  • ✓ Curated UK supermarket starter lists at three budgets

Questions

A few things people ask

Does it work offline?

Yes — that's the whole point. Once your household and inventory are set up, the checklist, ration book, local info and guide library all work without a connection. The only things that need the internet are the initial postcode lookup and barcode database check.

Is my data private?

Your household details and inventory are stored on your device. No account is needed to use the app.

Is this an official government app?

No. Ration Book is independent and not affiliated with the UK Government. It's based on publicly available GOV.UK preparedness guidance, curated and turned into a personal plan.

Does it replace the Red Cross or official alerts?

No — and it isn't trying to. Apps like British Red Cross Emergency already handle live alerts well. Ration Book is about being ready beforehand: what you have, what you need, and what to do with it.

Which devices does it support?

iPhone first. Android is possible later, depending on how the iPhone version lands.

No panic. Just a plan.
